Turbid’s Managing Direct Butch Uechtritz has been busy lately running up and down the eastern seaboard of Australia presenting to regulators, designers and contractors on High Efficiency Sediment Basins and the proper selection and specification of coagulants, flocculants and automated dosing systems.
The construction and mining industries are thirsty for new knowledge on better ways to manage sediment in construction site runoff and Butch has been more than happy to pass on his considerable knowledge and expertise. Participants have been literally getting their hands dirty testing coagulants and flocculants on turbid water samples and visiting operating HES basins to learn more about their design, set-up and operation.
The capacity building events were sponsored by the Queensland Government and the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) to promote recent policy changes for construction water management in Queensland and to educate ESC practitioners and civil contractors on the new technical guidelines developed by IECA for the design and operation of HES basins (known as Type A and Type B basins in the IECA Guidelines (https://www.austieca.com.au/publications/best-practice-erosion-and-sediment-control-bpesc-document).

More events are planned for 2018 with details on the locations and dates available through Healthy Land and Water (http://hlw.org.au/) and IECA Australasia (www.austieca.com.au).
